Volunteer Position: Bike Mechanic

    • to keep usable bicycles out of the waste stream;
    • Share and expand bike restoration skills and knowledge
  • Work with like minded bicycle enthusiasts

  • Access fully tools and parts equipped repair shop.

Expected commitment:

  • Avg 6 hrs/month minimum
  • After the Probationary Period (6 sessions), a minimum 4 month or 40 hour commitment is requested.

Responsibilities:

  • ensure that the shop is a clean, organized, safe working environment
  • clean bicycles, clean and sort parts, strip parts from unrepairable bikes, assist with shop maintenance
  • repair and restore used bicycles as directed by the Shop Supervisor
  • take adavantage of opportunities to improve and advance your skills
  • follow shop procedures to ensure the quality and reliability of Recyclore bicycles

Requirements:

  • Basic experience with bike maintenance and repairs

Training/Preparation:

  • Probationary Period (6 weeks) before any commitment is expected
  • Basic Orientation to the organization and shop standards and procedures
  • On-going training and support as needed/appropriate
  • If desired, training for basic bike mechanics provided as appropriate

Time/Place:

  • During regular Recyclore hours and/or as off hour supervision is available
  • On a case by case basis, volunteers who have the skills and experience to work independently are given access to the shop and set their own schedule

Supervision:

  • A shop supervisor is always present and available
